Professor Jose Aguilar is a System Engineer graduated in 1987 from the Universidad de Los Andes, Merida, Venezuela. He got a M. Sc. degree in Computer Sciences in 1991 from the Université Paul Sabatier, Toulouse-France, and a Ph. D degree in Computer Sciences in 1995 from the Université Rene Descartes, Paris-France.


He completed post-doctorate studies at the Department of Computer Science in the University of Houston, United States, 1999-2000; and another post-doctorate with an MSCA scholarship from the GOT ENERGY TALENT program, Horizon 2020 of European Union, Universidad de Alcalá, 2020-2022.


Currently, he is a Senior Researcher at the IMDEA Network institut. In addition, he is a Emeritus Professor at the Universidad de Los Andes of Venezuela. Also, he is Member as Individual Number, Armchair 16, in the area of Physical, Mathematical, Natural, Chemical, Health and Technology Sciences, of the Mérida Science Academy. In addition, he is an IEEE Senior Member since 2024 of the IEEE.


he was Titular Professor at the Department of Computer Science in the Universidad de Los Andes and Researcher at the Microcomputer and Distributed Systems Center (CEMISID) at the same university. He carried out postdoctoral stay in the Laboratoire d'Analyse et d'Architecture des Systèmes (LAAS), between 2010 and 2011.


On the other hand, he was the President of the Centro Latinoamericano de Estudios en Informática (CLEI) from 2020 to 2024, and its Executive Secretary from 2016 to 2020. Also, he was Contracted Professor at the Universidad de EAFIT in Colombia, from 2019 to 2024; a LAAS Research Fellows in Toulouse, France; a Prometeo Researcher since 2014 to 2017 at the Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja and Yachay-EP, in Ecuador; and member of the International Technical Committee on Artificial Neural Networks of the IEEE-CIS, 2010-2018.


Regarding administrative activities, he was head of the Department of Computer Science, School of Systems Engineering, University of Los Andes from 2011 to 2014, Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Applied Science of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Los Andes from 2012 to 2016, President of the Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology in Mérida (Fundacite Mérida) from 2001 to 2007, and President of the National Center for Research and Development in Free Technologies (CENDITEL) from 2006 tol 2008.


He has published more than 700 papers and 9 books, in the field of Parallel and Distributed Systems, Artificial Intelligence and Computational Intelligence, Industrial Automation, Science and Technology Management, etc. referenced in Google Scholar, ORCID, and Scopus, among other indexes. He has been a visiting research/professor in different universities and laboratories in the world. He has been President of Scientific Committees of several conferences, such as the Latin American Informatics Conference XXXX (CLEI 2014), held in Montevideo, Uruguay, September 2014.


He has a channel on youtube, with recordings of seminars, lectures and virtual classes, and leads the international research group on Artificial Intelligence Tepuy. The list of his PhD students is on the Mathematics Genealogy Project.
